My father William ("Bill") Hough served in the LRDG throughout the war. He was recruited from the Yorkshire Yeomenary. He was a signaler and was promoted to Sergeant Major and became a Warrant Officer. He was Mentioned In Despatches in 1942. I am not sure where he served after the end of the North Africa Campaign. I would be delighted to hear from anyone who remembers my father.

Hello all, Really interesting site you have here. I know this is a long shot, but... did anyone know a man called Leopold (often shortened to Leo or Lee) Harris? He was my grandfather, and operated in North Africa and possibly Iraq with the LRDG. He was also best friends with a Ghurka, and they would often save each other's lives. Any information on either would be very much appreciated. Thank you, Lee (yes, named after him) Harris

I've just read Tobruk Commando, an original 1956 edition which my dad passed down to me, recently. It's important to us because his uncle died in that operation and is mentioned, albeit briefly by name in the book. Whilst he was in the Commando and not the LRDG there seemed a close affinity between the two especially at the end.

His platoon was stranded in Barce after his Battalion's -2-13th AIF- action at Er Rejima ridge at Benghazi on 4 April, in delaying the German advance.

My father served in the Guards Patrol LRDG with Michael Crighton Stewart until he was taken prisoner of war in 1941. A good book and point of reference is Crighton Stewarts G Patrol.

Very Good website, but I think you should add a forum so people who are searching for relatives can work together.

The LRDG Preservation Society web site is the best reference (especially for pictures) that I have come across. Bagnold and friends (of the Zerzura Club and the LRDG) have given me many hours of enjoyable reading.

Hi, I am searching for any information regarding the initial set up of the LRDG? We recently discovered my late Grandfather Lt. Col. E.G.Harvey was part of LRDG-SAS? He spoke fluent Arabic based in Sudan 1939 for a number of years!! It would be appreciated. Many Thanks

Ref query from Jon Custis. The IWM does hold a manual detailing the composition and operation of an LRDG desert patrol. I don't recall one with the title you mention, but think that it is an odd description to have been used anyway. Are you sure of the title? I have a copy of the manual that I've seen, so if there is anything specific that you are looking for please let me know.
